Japan Quake Impact on Taiwan Semiconductor
Taiwan’s semiconductor manufacturers painted a mixed picture of the availability of semiconductor raw materials from Japan after the northeastern part of its main island was ravaged by an earthquake and tsunami.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world’s largest contract chip maker, said that its Japanese suppliers were not seriously affected by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake. TSMC said it had a sufficient safety stock of silicon wafers and that its sources of supply remained stable because not all of its suppliers’ production facilities were located in disaster zones.
